Compositore elettronico marchigiano nato musicalmente in un mondo analogico – Paolo F. Bragaglia giunge ai nostri giorni digitali attraverso un percorso caratterizzato dal costante interesse per la metamorfosi del suono attraverso i generi musicali.
Coinvolto nella scena storica della new wave marchigiana, ha dato vita a numerosi gruppi tra cui Tzarâs Revox e 3B Unit. L’esplorazione di nuovi mondi sonori lâha sempre spinto a ricercare i possibili coinvolgimenti della musica con l’immagine in movimento, la scena, lâarchitettura. Da qui, un’intensa carriera come compositore di colonne sonore, con lavori nella danza, nel teatro, nelle gallerie d’arte, con una costante fascinazione per il confronto tra melodia e sperimentazione. Ha composto innumerevoli musiche per spot pubblicitari, documentari, musica per televisione e film proiettati in festival di tutto il mondo (ha contribuito di recente alla colonna sonora originale del film in uscita in autunno âIo sono Veraâ di Beniamino Catena) ed ha lavorato in numerosi spettacoli teatrali e audiovisivi. Profondamente coinvolto nellâuso delle tecnologie interattive per la fruizione della musica, ha anche ideato il progetto di realtĂ aumentata “Geotracks“, basato sulla geo-localizzazione di brani musicali e letture di poesie in luoghi sensibili.
Autore di sette album pubblicati, ha collaborato con un considerevole numero di musicisti, registi ed artisti – Mauro Pagani (ospite nel suo primo album âMagnum Chaosâ del 1999), Steve Piccolo, Monica Demuru, Howie B, Roberto Paci Dalò, Robert Lippok, Orchestra Filarmonica Marchigiana e la danzatrice Simona Lisi – e si è esibito con vari progetti in numerosi festival come Time Zones, Dancity, Cinematica, Rassegna di Nuova Musica, Spaziomusica, Ipercorpo, Beach Bum Festival, Inteatro, APP, Blooming, Mozartfest Wurzburg e in luoghi come Museo Maxxi, MACRO e Palazzo Venezia a Roma, Museo del Louvre a Parigi, Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Marsiglia e Varsavia, Museo Leonardo da Vinci e Fabbrica del Vapore a Milano, Palazzo Reale a Torino e in molti altri contesti.
Fondatore e direttore del festival di musica elettronica Acusmatiq (ad Ancona, dal 2006) e fondatore del Museo del Synth Marchigiano dedicato agli strumenti elettronici vintage realizzati nella sua regione di origine.
âThe Man from the Labâ è il suo primo disco ad uscire a suo nome dopo lâacclamato âMystere du Printempsâ del 2006, per la storica Minus Habens Records e segue lâalbum âYUGâ con il duo elettroacustico Synusonde del 2011. âThe Man from the Labâ è la colonna sonora elettronica di unâimmaginaria serie televisiva, prodotta in unâaltra dimensione ed ambientata in un laboratorio di biologia sperimentale segreto e in un mondo distopico alla fine degli anni â70, nel quale un virus sconosciuto arriva dal futuro per mano di un corriere misterioso. Fantascienza, distopia e ucronia, come specchi tra diversi piani spazio-temporali, per attivare suggestioni musicali appropriate ad evocare umori e fantasmi del nostro mondo contemporaneo, in maniera immaginifica e con un unâestetica retro-futurista.
I nove brani dell’album sono fortemente ispirati dalle sonoritĂ algide e sintetiche della new wave inglese elettronica a cavallo tra â70 ed i primi â80 (âMetamaticâ di John Foxx, band di Sheffield come i primi Human League e i Cabaret Voltaire, gli albori della Mute Records come Fad Gadget e The Normal o Gary Numan), ma al tempo stesso dialogano con i suoni elettronici contemporanei per situarsi âfuori dal tempoâ ed evitare il clichĂŠ manierista della âretromaniaâ a tutti i costi. Un uso intensivo di synth analogici vintage contribuisce a creare una trama sonora che rinforza lo spiazzamento temporale, componente fondamentale dello spirito dellâalbum.
âThe Man from the Labâ è dunque un concept strumentale (con un solo brano cantato) in cui l’autore condivide lo sforzo realizzativo con la coppia di producer Ganzfeld FrequencyTest per un disco che è stato concepito, realizzato e prodotto durante il primo lockdown pandemico dello scorso anno, in cui anche i titoli rimandano a vari aspetti del mondo dei laboratori scientifici. Un album che, dopo lunghe esplorazioni in diversi territori musicali, rappresenta infine anche un omaggio ai suoni che hanno influenzato le origini della carriera del compositore e musicista marchigiano.

Monkey. Brano ritmico e cadenzato dalla forte impronta elettronica, con testo declamato da un sintetizzatore vocale e da un vocoder, dalle atmosfere inquietanti ispirate dalle drammatiche condizioni dei primati da laboratorio.
The Mixture. Un brano dalle marcate movenze electro, veloce ed âurgenteâ con elementi melodici da soundtrack di fantascienza.
The Man from the Lab. Lâipotetica sigla dellâipotetica colonna sonora dellâipotetica serie televisiva. Suoni malinconici e futuribili – nel 1979 – per evocare lo spiazzante e suggestivo punto di collisione tra le vicende umane, i grovigli spazio temporali e la ricerca scientifica.
Black Swan. Lâipotetico brano conclusivo dellâipotetica colonna sonora dellâipotetica serie televisiva. Lâunico brano cantato dellâalbum, dal sottoscritto, che vuole essere un tributo alla cold wave elettronica del John Foxx di âMetamaticâ.
Rabbitâs Run. Altro capitolo di stile electro che assieme a âThe Mixtureâ è uno dei brani piĂš incalzanti e veloci dellâintero lavoro. Suoni acidi ed ossessivi che si ispirano virtualmente alla colonna sonora di unâipotetica scena di fuga di un coniglio/cavia da un laboratorio.
Bat. Una traccia oscura ed enigmatica dove confluiscono vari elementi stilistici: da suoni provenienti da synth modulari a basslines acide che si stagliano su melodie dal forte senso cinematico.
Stirrers. Brano dal forte impianto cinetico, sonoritĂ graffianti ed acide che evocano programmaticamente una situazione di grande concitazione, quasi musica a programma sul movimento frenetico delle provette agitate dal mescolatore meccanico.
Dust. Un momento evocativo e riflessivo, malinconico ed incalzante al tempo stesso. Sequenze, pad e synth si intrecciano per delineare un sentimento di pacata e leggera desolazione, dove lo smarrimento della percezione univoca del tempo ed il senso dellâignoto sono protagonisti.
Dawn of the Mouse. Altro brano dallâincedere enigmatico e un poâ cupo, dai suoni elettronici ed astratti che rimandano direttamente al concept del disco come colonna sonora. Si ispira, come dice il titolo, ai barlumi delle prime luci dellâalba che si riflettono sui macchinari e sulle gabbie di un topo da laboratorio.
